Strengthening Practice Through Collaboration: Highlights from APA’s Domestic Violence Prosecution Conference
Prosecutors, investigators, and victim advocates came together for two and a half days of practical training and peer exchange in Salt Lake City.
Last week, the 7th National APA Domestic Violence Prosecution Conference brought prosecutors, investigators, and victim advocates together in Salt Lake City, Utah, for two and a half days of in‑depth training, collaboration, and discussion focused on strengthening domestic violence prosecution nationwide.
Hosted by the Association of Prosecuting Attorneys (APA) in partnership with the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office, the conference featured plenary sessions, hands‑on case study exercises, and advanced and foundational breakout sessions designed to support professionals working on the front lines of domestic violence cases.
Key Themes and Sessions
Throughout the conference, attendees explored practical strategies and emerging issues in domestic violence prosecution, including:
- Investigating and prosecuting cases involving recantation and reluctant witnesses
- Navigating difficult conversations while working with victims
- Identifying human trafficking through domestic violence cases
- Addressing animal abuse and its intersection with domestic violence
- Jury selection, case strategy, and the effective use of AI in domestic violence cases
Sessions were led by experienced prosecutors, victim advocates, and subject‑matter experts from offices and organizations across the country, providing attendees with actionable insights they can apply immediately in their jurisdictions.
