Image‑Based Abuse Prosecutor Roundtable Sets the Stage for MCPC Winter Meeting
Yesterday, the Association of Prosecuting Attorneys, in partnership with the Joyful Heart Foundation, convened prosecutors, policy leaders, and survivor‑advocates in Decatur, GA for the Image‑Based Abuse Prosecutor Roundtable. The discussion centered on the rapidly evolving landscape of technology‑facilitated abuse—including synthetic and AI‑generated imagery—and the challenges these cases present for investigators, legislators, and prosecutors. Attendees explored gaps in existing laws, shared promising strategies for survivor‑centered and trauma‑informed prosecution, and identified critical needs for training, tools, and cross‑jurisdictional collaboration. We extend our sincere thanks to the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office for hosting this important gathering.
This Roundtable was intentionally timed to set the foundation for the Winter Major County Prosecutors Council (MCPC) meeting, where many of these themes will carry forward. In the coming weeks, APA and the Joyful Heart Foundation will begin outlining follow‑up actions, including the development of guidance for offices handling image‑based abuse cases, opportunities for peer‑to‑peer learning, and exploration of legislative and policy reforms raised during the discussion. Together, we’re committed to advancing a coordinated national response that strengthens accountability, supports survivors, and equips prosecutors with the tools they need to meet the moment.
